David Thornton
Dr. David Thornton worked on AI innovation and new technologies as a Fulbright U.S. Scholar at Graz University of Technology (TU Graz) in Austria. He collaborated with Game Lab Graz and the Institute of Interactive Systems and Data Science on projects involving virtual reality, speech technologies, and artificial intelligence. He developed AI-supported multilingual speech controls and an AI tutor for the Maroon physics simulation platform while teaching graduate courses to nearly 100 students and mentoring students working in generative AI, multimodal interfaces, and gamification. He gained advanced skills in software development, speech interfaces, large language models, and machine learning, leading to a multi-year U.S. project building AI-supported tools for law enforcement in cybercrime and digital forensics. David's international experience broadened his perspective on education, strengthening his career and his institution, and enabled him to contribute to American national security, technology and innovation.
