Craig J. Goergen
Dr. Craig J. Goergen is a professor and Associate Head of Biomedical Engineering at Purdue University, specializing in technology and innovation that advances the study and treatment of cardiac disease. As a Fulbright U.S. Scholar in France, he conducted research at the Université de Montpellier examining the ways mild traumatic brain injuries influence long-term cardiac function. Working closely with French colleagues, he applied advanced ultrasound and photoacoustic imaging techniques to study brain–heart interactions, while engaging students, international collaborators, and the broader scientific community through laboratory work and international symposiums. His Fulbright experience propelled new scientific directions in his lab, resulting in multiple peer reviewed publications and expanded collaborations supported by additional international grants and resulting in several of his trainees completing international research experiences. Living abroad with his family strengthened his commitment to international education, inspiring him to promote Fulbright through mentoring, public engagement, and leadership roles in major professional societies.
