In addition to being a prestigious academic exchange program, the Fulbright Program is designed to expand and strengthen relationships between the people of the United States and citizens of other nations and to promote international understanding and cooperation. To support this mission, Fulbright Scholars may be asked to give public talks, mentor students, and otherwise engage with the host community, in addition to their primary activities.
Teach, conduct research, or do a combination of both within area of specialty. In addition, consult on curriculum, program and faculty development, and conduct seminars and workshops. For teaching/research, teaching must be a minimum of 50 percent of proposed project. For research grants, preference will be given to research activities that involve collaboration with local scholars.

Grant should begin either August 2025 or January 2026. The Thai academic year runs from August to May. The first semester is from August to December; the second semester is January to May.
Applications specializing in environmental and/or energy policy (including water management); education; emerging technologies; cultural heritage preservation; economics; public health and infectious diseases; food security are encouraged though applicants from a diverse range of disciplines will be considered.
Fulbright East Asia Pacific Regional Travel Program
As conditions allow, Fulbright Scholars in the East Asia and Pacific (EAP) region may have the opportunity to apply for funds to support short-term (3-14 days) travel to other countries in the EAP region for activities such as lectures, workshops, graduate or faculty seminars, master classes or recitals, curricular advising, or panel presentations. EAP Regional Travel Program funding covers transportation only. Regional Travel Program activities/host sites should not be included in the initial Fulbright application. Scholars may start the process of seeking out invitations for short-term activities in other EAP countries once notified that they have been selected for a Fulbright grant but will only be able to apply for travel program funds, conditions permitting, once they have actively started their Fulbright grant in their host country. Scholars on Flex grants are not eligible for the regional travel grant.

All teaching will be in English. Thai langauge proficiency is not required. However, teaching/research and research applicants with Thai language skills must submit a language proficiency evaluation. Teaching/research and research applicants without Thai language skills should explicitly address the issue in their discussion of the feasibility of the project in their project proposal.
Applicants for teaching grants must hold at least the rank of assistant professor and have three or more years of university teaching experience. Teaching assistant work does not qualify. Applicants without prior experience in Thailand and early career scholars are encouraged to apply.

Research grants:
• All scholars: 51,000 Baht (USD 1,500) per month
Teaching or teaching/research grants:
• Assistant professor or professional equivalent: 72,000 Baht (USD 2,118) per month
• Associate/Full professor or professional equivalent: 78,000 Baht (USD 2,294) per month
Payments are calculated from the date of arrival through the final day in country within the grant period.
Additional maintenance allowance of 4,000-10,000 Baht (USD 118 - USD 294) per month in provincial locations and 6,000-12,000 Baht (USD 176 -USD 353) per month in Bangkok, depending on the number of accompanying dependents.
Housing may be provided by some provincial universities, but grantees are charged for utilities. A housing allowance is provided where university housing is not available. Depending on the number of accompanying dependents, the rates are 12,000-18,000 Baht (USD 353 -USD 529) per month in provincial locations and 20,000-28,000 Baht (USD 588 - USD 824) per month in Bangkok.
Round-trip international travel is arranged by the Fulbright Commission for each grantee and for one dependent if the grant is for four months or longer and if the dependent is in Thailand for at least 80 percent of the grant period.
In-transit: 4,500 Baht (USD 132), paid immediately upon arrival.
Excess baggage: Up to 15,000 Baht (USD 441), divided as appropriate between the outbound and return
Relocation: 15,000 Baht (USD 441) for grants of four months or longer
Teaching or Teaching/Research Grants: The book allowance is up to 14,000 Baht (USD 412) for books and educational materials to be donated to the host institution (or other entity) upon the grantee's departure.
Research Grants: The research allowance is up to 30,000 Baht (USD 882) for incidental expenses related to the project. In all cases, receipts must be presented to the Thailand-U.S. Educational Foundation to receive the reimbursement in baht.
For grantees based in provincial locations, 63,000-126,000 Baht (USD 1,853 - USD 3,706) per family for accompanying dependents in grades 1-12; for grantees based in Bangkok, 82,000-164,000 Baht (USD 2,412 - USD 4,823) per family for accompanying dependents in grades 1-12. Amount may be adjusted for shorter grant periods. Reimbursement is based on actual cost of tuition and fees only.
Grantees with dependent children should note that while the tuition allowance provided is sufficient to cover the majority of expenses at nearly all schools in Thailand, it will cover only about one-third of the costs at the International School of Bangkok, which charges fees exceeding the tuition allowance provided.
Dependents must accompany the grantee for at least 80% of the period abroad and a minimum of one semester in order to qualify for additional dependent benefits. Dependent benefits are not provided to Flex grantees.
Reimbursable allowance of up to 20,000 Baht (USD 588) for Thai language training. Receipts must be presented to the Thailand-U.S. Educational Foundation to receive the reimbursement in baht.
Final grant amounts will be determined prior to the start of the academic year and are subject to the availability of funds. The United States Department of State and the Fulbright Commission in the host country reserve the right to alter, without notice, participating countries, number of awards and allowances.
