In addition to being a prestigious academic exchange program, the Fulbright Program is designed to expand and strengthen relationships between the people of the United States and citizens of other nations and to promote international understanding and cooperation. To support this mission, Fulbright Scholars may be asked to give public talks, mentor students, and otherwise engage with the host community, in addition to their primary activities.
Applications that include a teaching component are highly encouraged, but professional projects are also acceptable, particularly in the fields of cybersecurity, FinTech, computing, entrepreneurship and business incubators.
Generally speaking, scholars will teach undergraduate or graduate courses in their area of specialization; advise students and provide guidance on research techniques; develop courses and training manuals; supervise theses and dissertations. Scholars may also conduct research in their area of specialization, in combination with teaching responsibilities. Interested scholars may organize seminars or workshops focused on developing and building the capacity of faculty in their host institutions.
For Scholars who will be hosted at Botho University's Faculty of Computing, they should prepare to teach undergraduate courses in cybersecurity or Financial Technology (FINTECH), approximately 8 hours per week. Courses will include lectures along with hands-on tutorials. The Scholar will be assigned local teaching instructors and assistants to help with the tutorials, and is expected to provide a complete guide on how labs and tutorials should be run, and provide TIs and TAs with training as necessary. The emphasis should be on practical hands-on experience. The Scholar will also be expected to co-supervise undergraduate and postgraduate students and to deliver a training in Cyber Security and/or Digital Forensics with a focus on FINTECH for faculty, and possibly other stakeholders.
The US Mission in Gaborone may ask the scholar to engage with partners of similar interests and conduct outreach to share and exchange expertise in FINTECH.
This award is open to all universities in Botswana.
Please contact FulbrightBotswana@state.gov or PASGaborone@state.gov if you have questions about the host institutions.
Grants may be 6-10 months in length and start in August or September, in accordance with host institution needs. In some instances, scholars may plan to arrive in January as may be mutually agreed with the host.

Research-only or Professional Project grantees receive a standard stipend that is not adjusted for academic rank. In most cases, dependent benefits will not be provided to Flex grantees, or to grantees pursuing grants less than four months (or a semester) in length.
Final grant amounts will be determined prior to the start of the academic year and are subject to the availability of funds. The United States Department of State reserves the right to alter, without notice, participating countries, number of awards and allowances.
