Meet Priya Menon, a 2018 Fulbright U.S. Scholar to India. She is currently a professor in the Department of English at Troy University, where she teaches Literary Theory, World Literature, Global Anglophone Literature, and Gender and Literature. During her Fulbright, she conducted research on Emigrant Literature in the state of Kerala, India, documenting stories of migrant workers who went to the Gulf Cooperation Council countries. Her host institution was the Centre for Development Studies in Kerala, affiliated with Jawaharlal Nehru University in New Delhi, which is renowned in the field of development economics. “Fulbright has added credibility to my academic work,” Dr. Menon said. “I’ve been awarded full professorship, had access to archives, and had conversations with key stakeholders in the field—thanks to Fulbright.” She says her Fulbright gave her the opportunity to publish multiple articles on her work in Emigrant Literature, and to gain more experience as a teacher.
