Joellen Coryell

Joellen is an Associate Dean for Educational Partnerships and Enrollment in the College of Education and Professor of Adult, Professional, and Community Education at Texas State University. She has a passion for travel and cross-cultural learning and for understanding the influences of experience, knowledge, and culture on learning and teaching in adult and higher education. She teaches in doctoral and master’s programs and serve on dissertation research committees as chair and member. My research focuses on international cross-cultural adult and higher education and the investment in the professional development of adult educators and leaders.  As Associate Dean, she serves on the College’s leadership team and engage in educational partnerships, enrollment and retention management, strategic planning, and collaborations across three departments with over 5000 students. 

As a U.S. scholar to Italy (Università di Roma-LUMSA), Joellen conducted research and teaching activities connected with issues and needs for internationalization of higher education teaching and learning. She conducted collaborative research on faculty development during university internationalization which resulted in 7 peer-reviewed publications in American and Italian journals and several presentations at professional conferences. She taught a doctoral seminar, and conducted 16 faculty professional development workshops in 8 Italian universities and the Italian Fulbright Commission during her award and since then. As the first Fulbrighter to her host institution, Joellen opened the opportunity for future Fulbrighters both to and from the University. At home she also sponsored partnership MOUs and Erasmus project proposals with Italian universities, helping to continue the university’s internationalization goals.
